Shoes Shoes Shoes !
Who doesn’t love shoes?! Stilettos, flats, wedges, slip-ons, pumps; whatever it may be, as long as it looks pretty on my feet, I have to have it!
I’ve always been a lover of all sorts of flats. Coming from such a rich (punjabi) cultural background, I used to find our Punjabi traditional ethnic version of flats (punjabi juttis) so exciting as I was growing up. Around India, our juttis are also known as mojari, or some may know them as khussas as they say in Pakistan. Regardless of the name, they all had that same artistic hand-woven thread and intricate designs that were always so fascinating. They used to come in all sorts of colors, designs, and textures. Some with beads, some with sequins, and my favorite (yes, even today), the ones with the little bells that create this pretty jingle as you walk.
As I started getting older, my collection for these juttis also kept growing. However there came a point where instead of buying the colorful and beaded ones, I began to buy the more subtle ones. Blacks, greys, and beiges, were what were filling my closets now. I wanted to wear these juttis not just with my Indian outfits but with my normal everyday clothes too! So now as I was shopping in India last month, it clicked to me. Why can’t I create my own design for my shoes!
Now rather than looking for these juttis, I was in search of beautiful prints, colors, and fabrics that could go on my shoes. I went to different fabric stores all around India looking for beautiful prints and designs that I thought would look gorgeous on my feet. I was looking for fabrics that would keep the true essence of our cultural shoes, but have a modern twist on them. Floral designs to give them a vintage look…Polka dot patterns that would add a modern flair…and Geometric prints to give some that edgy look. I found a whole new array of prints and fabrics to play with and the results were absolutely phenomenal! I instantly fell in love with these new creations and so wanted to share my love for these shoes and make them available for everyone to have! Oh and most importantly, I had to make sure that each shoe had to have cushioning and a felt coat for that extra softness that every girl needs.
To some these shoes may be ordinary. But to me, they have something extra. And maybe that’s what makes our Fashion Pickle footwear line extraordinary!
